Lenten Appeal
It that time of the year again, Orphan for a day!
The motto for the Social Justice Group and for all students at St Augustine’s College is SEA. The S stands for Service, the E for Education and the A for Awareness.
There are three components that our students learn from in the SEA programme.Service - Jesus was the model servant of leadership, washing his disciple’s feet. Through serving those less fortunate than us we learn humility. It is our aim through Education, students are provided with opportunities to better themselves as they learn about and work with social justice issues. Through Awareness of injustices in society, students strive to help others and improve the world they live in.
As you are aware we are in Lent and this time is used to help those less fortunate than ourselves. The school uses this time to help the Sisters of Consolation in raising money for the TMMR Orphanage in the Philippines.
On Wednesday the 20th March during the term, I will be providing the boys with the opportunity to experience the E and A of the SEA program. The boys in 6L and 6A will be participating in a day that will try to give them a small taste of what life would be like for
the children who live in the Philippine Orphanage.
The day will be:
- Without technology, so laptops can say at home.
- Limited desk and chairs in the classroom.
- Use of only one ceiling fan.
- A piece of fruit for recess and rice for lunch (I’ll provide the rice).
- The only ball game to be played during recess
or lunch is basketball or soccer (Only 1 basketball & soccer ball to be used).
Last year the boys found their commitment to the day to have been a tough ( for some) and valuable experience. In doing this again this year, I hope that this will reinforce to the boys how lucky they are and that the money that they raise is going to a worthwhile cause as it did last year.
I ask for you help on this by sponsoring your son for the day, feel free to take away their television and computer privileges as well. It would be great, through you sponsorship, if we could raise, as a class, over $200. In saying this, a note donation would be greatly appreciated.
Kind regards,
Mrs. A
